The Dance Department welcomes students of all abilities, from the beginner who wishes to dance for fun to the experienced dancer looking to refine their skills and challenge the body as well as the mind. There are opportunities to learn more about technique, the creative process, performing and teaching. Leveled classes are offered in Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz, Tap and Musical Theater. Classes in Fitness for the Dance (Aerobic Dance), Social Dance and Folk Dance (contemporary African Diaspora Dance) are also available. Theory & Application of Dance is a general appreciation course. For the more serious student, we offer courses in Dance History (detailed observation about the impact of dance throughout history), Dance Pedagogy (the theory of dance education), Administration & Organization (the business side of dance), Summer Dance Workshop (a 2 week intensive of various dance styles) and Dance Workshop/Choreography (the creative process). There is also the Repertory Dance Ensemble class in which our resident company learns choreography and performs in the bi-yearly concerts. Please check the ULM Dance Repertory Ensemble page for more details. Our dance classes are open to all ULM students. Level II technique class enrollment requires the permission of the instructor.
