ULM chapter of Pi Delta Phi initiates five new members
The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Mu Chi chapter of the French Honor Society, Pi Delta Phi, welcomed five new student members during its annual initiation.
The new members are Makeva Armant of Pearl, Miss., Theodore Brode of West Monroe, Jenae' Clay and April Micheau of Lafayette, and Melinda Johnson of Bossier City.
The ceremony was conducted by Dr. Chris Michaelides, chapter advisor, and Dr. Fred Adams, associate professor of French.
Readings from French literature form part of the initiation ritual, and this year's student readers were Makeva Armant, Melinda Johnson, Catherine Olson, and Jenae' Clay.
Dr. Ruth E. Smith, director of the ULM School of Humanities, was the guest speaker.
Pi Delta Phi is the national French honor society created to recognize outstanding performance by students of French.
The requirements for initiation are a 3.0 grade point average and at least one advanced level French course.
The Mu Chi Chapter at ULM was founded in 2000.
