ULM to host National Convention for honor students in agriculture March 7-9
For the first time, the University of Louisiana at Monroe will host the Annual Delta Tau Alpha National Convention. Delta Tau Alpha is a national honor society for students majoring in agriculturally related fields.
The DTA Convention will be held Thursday, March 7, through Saturday, March 9.
Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Mike Strain, will be the convention’s keynote speaker. Dr. Strain’s presentation will be in conjunction with the convention’s awards banquet, Friday, March 8.
“The letters DTA stand for ‘Dedicated To Agriculture,’” said Dr. Jim Casey, program chair in Agribusiness at ULM.
“It is a privilege for the ULM DTA Chapter to host this Convention and highlight the importance of agriculture to Louisiana.”
Each year, the organization holds a national convention. Over 100 students from 13 universities will attend this year’s convention. Students will participate in meetings, an academic quiz bowl, and tours of agricultural sites throughout the area.
According to their website, Delta Tau Alpha (DTA) promotes and recognizes scholarship and leadership accomplishments of agricultural students while emphasizing character development, enhancing undergraduate preparation for professional positions, and joining with other agricultural student organizations in the promotion of agriculture.
