ULM Wind Ensemble to perform Feb. 27
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Wind Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall, located at ULM.
The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Derle Long, director of the ULM School of Visual and Performing Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature music by composers Kimberly Archer, Monroe native Frank Ticheli, Eric Whitacre, Richard Saucedo, Satoshi Yagisawa, Julius Fučik, and Henry Fillmore.
The performance of Ticheli’s “An American Elegy” will be particularly provocative.
According to Ticheli, the piece was composed in memory of the survivors and of those who lost their lives at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999.
It is a tribute to their great strength and courage in the face of a terrible tragedy.
The music is offered as a reminder of the fragility and preciousness of life, and how intimately connected we all are as human beings.
It will be performed by the Wind Ensemble as a tribute to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown,Conn.
