Duck Commander Phil Robertson highlights ULM Week of Welcome Aug. 16-23

Week of Welcome—the University of Louisiana at Monroe tradition which welcomes students back to campus—gets in full-swing beginning Friday, Aug. 16.

The highlight of the week's events is a visit from The Duck Commander Phil Robertson at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, in ULM's Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Sponsored by the Registered Student Organization "Warhawks for Christ" and Sparks Nissan and Kia in Monroe, Robertson will be the headliner of this community event, which includes entertainer "Big Al," and music groups "Axios" and "First Day."

Robertson will speak to attendees about his life, faith, and business.

Kindergarten through high school students get in free and college students with a valid school ID from any university or community college also get in free.

General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Fant-Ewing Coliseum at the door, via cash only.

VIP tickets are $250 each and can be purchased by emailing nick@anetostech.com

Those who purchase VIP tickets will receive floor seats, VIP parking, and will be part of a private meet and greet with Phil Robertson.

All proceeds from the event go to Warhawks for Christ.

Doors open for students at 4:30 p.m., with general admission seating beginning at 5 p.m. There will be door prizes, and one lucky college student will win a grand prize dinner with Phil and Kay Robertson at their home.

Here are some of the other events that students will enjoy:

Friday, Aug. 16:
Student events begin at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16 with "Move in Mania" at the ULM Activity Center, where first time students and returning students will be allowed to check into residence halls, and get acquainted with fellow students.

At 11 a.m., students attending Move in Mania, will be treated to lunch in the Student Union Ballrooms, located on the second floor of the SUB.

Saturday, Aug. 17:
The Baptist Collegiate Ministry hosts the Freshmen Fiesta, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the BCM.

The PREP Reunion brings freshmen together at 6 p.m., in Malone Stadium. Freshmen have the chance to get re-acquainted with friends met during summer PREP sessions.

The highly anticipated ULM Football Scrimmage begins at 6:30 p.m., in Malone Stadium. After the game, students will be treated to movie night at 8 p.m., in Malone Stadium with the blockbuster film, "Now You See Me."

Sunday, Aug. 18:
The residential meeting begins at 5:30 p.m., in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Students will learn pertinent information about campus living.

Following the residential meeting, students can enjoy Game Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Activity Center.

Monday, Aug. 19:
Classes begin and the semester kicks off with a free lunch social sponsored by the ULM Student Government Association, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Quad.

Bayou Park comes alive with "Water Slides and More," from 1 to 7 p.m., and "Fish Fry and Frisbees" from 5 to 7 p.m.

Following the festivities in Bayou Park, students will be treated to Ice Cream and Karaoke from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Wesley Foundation.

Tuesday, Aug. 20:
Tuesday begins with a free lunch social from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Quad. Ace the Warhawk Tryouts will also take place in the quad at the same time.

A job expo for students seeking on campus jobs will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., in the Student Union Building Ballrooms.

Wednesday, Aug. 21
The Greek Life Philanthropies Showcase will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Quad, with the BCM Steak-Out taking place from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the BCM.

ULM's Convocation march begins at 4:40 p.m., at the Kitty DeGree Bell Tower. Students will march to Fant-Ewing Coliseum for Convocation at 5 p.m., marking the official start of the fall semester.

Following Convocation, students will be treated to an ice cream social at 6 p.m., in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Thursday, Aug. 22:
The Catholic Campus Ministry will host the "CCM Carnival: Food, Fun and More!" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the CCM.

Students will have the opportunity to de-stress with free massages during the "First Week Stress Relief" event, from 1 to 5 p.m., in the Quad.

After relaxing, students can witness a Greek tradition, at 6 p.m., in the Quad—the National Pan-Hellenic Council "Stroll Off." Following that, the newest members of National Panhellenic Council sororities will take part in orientation at 7 p.m., in the SUB ballrooms.

A "Jumpoff Party" to signify the start of the year will take place from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Admission is $3 with a donation of school supplies, or $5 without a donation.

Friday, Aug. 23:
The first week of school ends for students with ULM Spirit Day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the SUB Overhang.
