ULM alum and Louisiana State Senator Walsworth speaks at commencement May 11
Louisiana State Senator and ULM alum Mike Walsworth, will be the keynote speaker for the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Spring Commencement, at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 11, in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Walsworth—representing District 33— earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from ULM in 1978.
He is currently in his 17th year in the State Legislature and is one of the longest serving members of the area delegation.
He believes "it is his obligation to serve our entire region and state."
Walsworth's district includes Ouachita Parish, Morehouse Parish, West Carroll Parish, Lincoln Parish Union Parish and Claiborne Parish.
Walsworth was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1995 and re-elected in 1999 and 2003.
He was first elected to the Louisiana Senate in 2008 and re-elected in 2011.
He serves as Chairman of Environmental Quality, Vice Chair of Senate and Governmental Affairs.
Walsworth continues to serve on the Select Committee on Homeland Security.
He will also serve on the Education Committee, and for the fifth year, the Joint Budget Committee.
Walsworth is also a member of the Legislative Audit Advisory Council and an interim member of Senate Finance.
He was a past Chairman of the Republican Legislative Delegation.
Senator Walsworth has won several legislative honors for his pro-business and anti-tax support.
A lifelong resident of Northeast, Louisiana, Walsworth is a graduate of Leadership Ouachita and Leadership Louisiana.
He is active in a number of organizations.
