Amy Matherne, a junior music education major from Monroe, was crowned Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe 2013 at the 60th Annual Miss ULM Pageant, Oct. 11, in Brown Auditorium.
Her platform is “Promoting Visual and Performing Arts Education for Young People,” and her talent is vocal performance.
Matherne received several several preliminary awards: evening gown, talent, interview, and swimsuit.
First runner-up is Sarah Torregrossa of West Monroe; second runner-up is Lauren Ford of Monroe;third runner-up is Kylie Stracener of Calhoun; and fourth runner-up is Stephanie Fraser of Alexandria.
Candice Johnson of Keller, Texas, won the Advertisement Sales Award; Kylie Stracener won the People’s Choice Award and the Miss Congeniality Award; and Lauren Ford won the Non-Finalist Academic Award.
The Miss ULM Pageant—which was honored with an award from the Miss Louisiana Organization for providing more scholarship money than any other pageant in Louisiana—is a preliminary to the Miss Louisiana Pageant, sponsored by ULM’s Campus Activities Board.
The competitive scholarship program emphasizes physical fitness, talent, public speaking, and academics.
Contestants must demonstrate poise, personality, intelligence, and charm during the pageant, and must showcase a trained talent in a 90-second performance.
