ULM College of Education will present free professional development for teachers Nov. 13

The College of Education and Human Development DREAM office will present a free professional development workshop for upper elementary and secondary teachers in all subject areas at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Strauss Hall, room 207.

Presented by the national organization, Population Connection, the workshop shares age-appropriate curricula about human population trends and the impact on natural resources, environmental quality, and human well-being that is interdisciplinary, hands-on and classroom-ready.

Population education, the focus of the workshop, is the ultimate multi-disciplinary field. Population education encompasses ecology, human geography, anthropology, economics, biology, public health, sociology, environmental studies, history and civics all rolled into one, with a good bit of mathematics and language arts to help students understand where we have come from and where we might be headed.

Participants will receive three continuing learning units (CLUs), as well as free materials.

There will be an opportunity to enter a drawing for a $50 online shopping spree.

“As a hub for cutting-edge, research-based curriculum and strategies for area educators and our students, The College of Education and Human Development and DREAM Office ceaselessly strives to disseminate valuable information, such as this national workshop, in low-cost and effective venues,” said Dean Sandra Lemoine.

“We are looking forward to hosting this workshop, as well as future trainings and a workshop by NASA Stennis Center this spring.”
