ULM Health Studies students visit veterans
Health studies students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe participated in a service learning project as part of Dr. Paula Griswold's Social Epidemiology class.
The project was funded by a grant from Communities Acting to Benefit Louisiana's Elderly.
This is the second year health studies students at ULM have cultivated their relationship with the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home by planting a garden and spending time fishing and visiting with the veterans.
Griswold, assistant professor of health studies, notes, "The interaction between the students and the veterans helped reinforce the topics we have covered in class such as nutrition, the needs of seniors within our community, and the social aspects of health. The students and I are truly grateful for this opportunity."
Griswold hopes to "grow" this project in future classes and build upon the relationship with the veterans at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home.
