Professor presents at annual conference
John W. Sutherlin, associate professor of political science, presented a paper at the annual Louisiana Political Science Association conference held Feb. 24-25 at LSU in Baton Rouge.
ULM hosted the 2007 conference when Sutherlin was president of the organization.
The LPSA keynote speaker was former Governor Edwin Edwards, who also did a book signing after the dinner. Sutherlin commented, "Edwards was remarkably candid in his speech, which was about his life, politics and an assessment of impact on Louisiana. As always, he was provocative."
Sutherlin's paper was entitled "Gender Politics in the Middle East and North Africa: Expanding or Contracting Women's Rights Post-Arab Spring." This paper is an expansion of a paper presented in Chicago last year at the Global Studies Conference. Parts of this paper have been accepted for publication already.
Sutherlin also served as discussant for a panel on international relations.
Next year's conference will be held in Natchitoches on the campus of Northwestern State University.
