ULM students return with honors from College Media Association annual convention
The weekend of March 17-20, University of Louisiana at Monroe Student Publications members attended the prestigious College Media Association's annual convention in New York City and walked away with honors.
"I'm happy to announce that two of our students, Srdjan Marjanovic of Belgrade, Serbia, and Lane Davis, made ULM very proud," said Dr. Christopher Mapp, assistant professor of mass communications and director of ULM Student Publications.
Marjanovic is the co-managing editor/art director and Davis is yearbook editor for ULM Publications.
In the "Take Cover New York" photography competition, students were tasked with getting the best shot of New York City possible in the three days allotted for the convention.
Out of hundreds of photos, Marjanovic had two pictures selected and finished in third place overall.
His photos, along with the top two winners, will be reprinted in next year's annual CMA NYC 2013 program.
Davis' photos were picked sixth, meaning two students from ULM were showcased among the top 10 winners.
"They competed and won against schools like Penn St., Virginia Tech, Duke and Texas to name a few," Mapp said.
"Funny thing is, they told Srdjan that his picture could have been on the cover next year. He didn't know you could edit/photoshop the pictures, which means he won third place with a 'raw' photo. Unbelievable. I'm so proud of them."
