ULM & LDCC enter into new online nursing articulation agreement
Louisiana's nursing shortage may lessen thanks to a new agreement between the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Louisiana Delta Community College.
The two institutions began working together in 2008 when they entered into an articulation memorandum of understanding, or "2+2."
Today, ULM President Nick J. Bruno and LDCC Chancellor Luke Robins entered into an expansion of the original agreement—to include an online nursing degree articulation.
This new partnership allows students to complete their associate of science degrees in nursing at LDCC in two years.
Students can then earn their bachelor of science degrees in nursing at ULM after two more years.
ULM President Nick Bruno said, "We are creating an opportunity for registered nurses to earn more education, widen their job opportunities, and also benefit healthcare in Louisiana. The majority of nurses working in our community now have earned their education from ULM. We are proud to expand that even more."
LDCC Chancellor Luke Robins said, “We’re delighted to be entering into this 2+2 agreement between Louisiana Delta Community College and ULM. This will create a seamless transfer opportunity for our RN graduates into ULM’s baccalaureate nursing program. This agreement will allow our students to transfer to ULM as juniors and complete the BSN in two years. It’s another great example of collaboration between our two institutions that benefits our students and our community. Working together, ULM, NELTC, and Delta can meet the workforce needs of our local healthcare providers.”
ULM and LDCC have 11 other articulation agreements: biology, construction, criminal justice, English, history, psychology, sociology, communication studies, toxicology, pre-professional health studies, and healthcare management/marketing.
ULM established articulation agreements with Dallas Community College District in 2009, an agreement with Bossier Parish Community College in 2010, South Arkansas Community College in 2010, and an agreement with Hinds Community College in 2010.
ULM will continue to explore 2+2 initiatives with other two-year colleges.
