KEDM earns 14 awards in Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association Contest
KEDM Public Radio, 90.3 FM, won 14 awards in the Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association Contest, including eight first-place citations.
The station picked up four second-place and two third-place awards.
The awards were announced during the LAPBA banquet in Baton Rouge on Saturday, June 2.
News and Public Affairs Director Bob Lenox received the top honor for Reporter of The Year.
He won first place for Story of the Year in covering the Mississippi River threatening Vidalia’s Riverfront.
He also placed first in Best Spot News for reporting on a higher education rally at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Lenox was also recognized for Best Sound for use of sound to enhance a news piece on farmland irrigation in northeast Louisiana.
He also received two second place awards and one third place.
Education Reporter John Hughes placed first in Best Feature for his story on iPads in a kindergarten classroom, and Best General News for reporting on a cluster of teen suicides in a local school district.
He also received one second place award.
KEDM Program Director Jay Curtis received the first place award for Public Affairs. His program remembered former ULM President Dr. George T. Walker.
He also won a second and third place award in the contest.
The station also won an award for its Web site, kedm.org, developed in part by ULM programmers Richard Peacock, Brian Taylor and Rob Glaze.
KEDM was recognized in the Class B category of stations, which includes all markets outside of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport.
KEDM Public Radio is licensed to ULM and broadcasts a line-up of in-depth news, classical music, and jazz, along with special entertainment programs from studios located on the ULM campus.
