Rad Tech faculty and students attend annual meeting
University of Louisiana at Monroe faculty members and students of the Department of Radiologic Technology participated in a multitude of activities at the 55th Annual Meeting of the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists July 19-21 in Lafayette.
The 2012 Quiz Bowl team dominated the competition and took home the First place trophy.
Team members included Becky Babin, Matt Baker, Josh Dannehl, Rebecca Gibson, Megan Hornberger, and Emilee Johns.
The team members were awarded individual plaques, as well as a team trophy that will be housed in the radiologic technology department.
All radiologic technology students in attendance participated in their choice of the scientific essay competition or the scientific exhibit competition, and all students were awarded certificates for their participation in the competitions.
Rebecca Gibson, a senior student in the radiologic technology program, led the student conference as Chair of the LSRT Student Advisory Council.
Gibson was elected at the previous LSRT meeting in early 2012 and will continue her position as Chair until March 2013.
Gibson has been involved extensively with the state and national societies, and has contributed significantly on behalf of the student technologists in the state.
Brett Bennett, department head and assistant professor of radiologic technology has served the past year as LSRT President, and will continue to serve on the Board of Directors for the next two years.
Bennett also served as the electronic scorekeeper in the quiz bowl competition.
Andy Allen, clinical coordinator and assistant professor of radiologic technology has served the past year as LSRT Board Member, and will serve the upcoming year as Chairman of the Board.
At the annual Educators Council meeting, he was elected Vice Chair of the Louisiana Educators in Radiologic Sciences (LERS) Council.
Also during the conference, Allen served as a judge during the Student Quiz Bowl competition, as well as the ULM Radiologic Technology Quiz Bowl coach.
