ULM political science professor published in international journal
Dr. John W. Sutherlin, associate professor of political science at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has had an article published in an international journal.
The article, titled "Middle East Turmoil and Human Rights: How will the 'New' Regimes Expand Civil Liberties," has been published in "Global Perspectives on Development and Technology."
The article analyzes the role of women in the political revolutions in North Africa and the Middle East during this past year, or the so-called "Arab Spring."
"This latest article actually builds upon past work on the subject, by expanding the analysis to more states and using more economic data," stated Sutherlin.
"However, the single biggest finding is that gender politics has been one of the most important issues in understanding how these states respond to turmoil."
Sutherlin previously presented the findings of this research at the annual Global Studies Conference. This is the 13th publication for Sutherlin since last year.
