ULM Panhellenic Council receives recognition
Several women serving on the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Panhellenic Council were recognized for excellence in community service at the Southeastern Panhellenic Association's closing banquet held March 31.
The women honored were Panhellenic President, Shelby McGaha, a junior Speech-Language Pathology major from McGehee, Ark.; Panhellenic Vice-President, Rebecca Myers, a junior kinesiology major from West Monroe, and Hannah Holbrook, Panhellenic Recruitment Chair, a sophomore Pre-Pharmacy major from Bridgeport, Texas.
SEPA is the regional leadership conference for council officers held in Atlanta each year.
The conference brings together university and college Panhellenic Councils located in the Southeastern United States as sorority women to discuss and learn better ways to govern and recruit on campus.
According to Coordinator of Greek Life Keith Hembree, the ULM Panhellenic Council won the award based on a series of sponsored hands-on community service events, fundraising events and philanthropic programming projects over the past year.
ULM was one of several schools recognized for a third consecutive year by the SEPC for their excellence in community service.
Only two Louisiana colleges and universities received recognition at the closing SEPA banquet, with ULM being one of the two schools receiving awards.
"The Panhellenic ladies have always been hard workers," said Hembree.
"I am thrilled that they were once again recognized for all their hard work, and on behalf of the ULM Administration congratulate them on their accomplishment."
"The ULM Office of Greek Life is charged with advising the 16 nationally recognized fraternities and sororities at ULM," said Hembree.
"These Greek organizations are founded on principles of scholarship, leadership, community service and development of lifelong friendships. They still practice these fundamental principles in their pursuit of excellence."
