ULM student helps West Ouachita Senior Center achieve national accreditation
A senior Health Studies Practicum II student at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Jordan Jones, recently assisted the West Ouachita Senior Center in the self-assessment process for accreditation.
Jordan reviewed polices, developed surveys and assisted with the business continuity and disaster recovery plans for the accreditation process.
Accreditation status was granted by the National Institute of Senior Centers, a unit of the National Council on Aging.
According to Practicum Coordinator for the Health Studies Program Dr. Paula Griswold, "This community partnership has provided health studies students a hands-on opportunity to examine the needs of the senior population in our community."
The West Ouachita Senior Center services aging residents - anyone over 60 years of age - in Ouachita Parish by providing education and recreational programs, health related services, and transportation to vital destinations within the community.
Out of approximately 15,000 senior centers throughout the United States, only two percent achieve national accreditation status.
