English faculty publishes collection of poetry

Dr. Claudia Grinnell, associate professor of English at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has published a collection of poems in "Southern Cross," an online literary journal.

The collection, titled "Hungry Ghosts," features six original works by Grinnell, "A Constant Hum," "That Woman," "The Ex-Planer," "Unqualified Success," "About the Cat," and "Hungry Ghosts."

The poems address topics from politics and war to the stock market to work and economics. You can read the poems by going to www.southerncrossreview.org.

More about Grinnell:
Grinnell was born and raised in Germany. She teaches literature, technical writing, and honors courses at ULM. Twice a finalist for the Pushcart Prize for poetry, her poems, fiction and essays have appeared in numerous publications.

Missing Consonant Press published Grinnell's first full-length book of poetry, "Conditions Horizontal," in the fall of 2001. Grinnell was the recipient of the Southern Women Writers Emerging Poets Award in 2000, and in 2005 she received the Louisiana Division of the Arts Fellowship.

Currently, Grinnell is co-writing a professional writing textbook with Dr. Sandra Hill, which is due out in fall 2012.
