Over 500 high school students "cyber compete" in Fifth Annual Technology Challenge
Approximately 550 students across the state participated in the Fifth Annual Louisiana High School Technology Challenge 2011, held online in 39 schools across Louisiana on Wednesday, March 2.
The annual online competition encourages high school students to prepare for Louisiana's future, by registering a 15-member student team, according to ULM's Dr. Mike Beutner, professor of instructional technology.
"Since 2006, well over 3,000 high school students have participated in this annual online event, held during regular school hours in a high school's computer lab," said Beutner.
"This year, thanks to CenturyLink's generous sponsorship, all registration and application fees were waved for students."
The 2011 competition results are as follows:
• First Place: Kinder High School, Allen Parish; Kim Rider, Team Coach
• Second Place: Many High School, Sabine Parish; Nancy L. Lambert, Team Coach
• Third Place: Breaux Bridge High School, St. Martin Parish; Christine Mills, Team Coach
• Fourth Place: Scotlandville Magnet High School, East Baton Rouge Parish; Beatrice Arvie, Team Coach
• Fifth Place: Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy, Jefferson Parish; Kelly Maher, Team Coach
Beutner added the reviews for the event were overwhelmingly positive, and he is looking forward to helping ULM host the sixth annual event next year.
