Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event at ULM April 2

The Keep Ouachita Parish Beautiful project is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Angus and the Dow Chemical Company are sponsoring the free service to keep hazards out of waterways and the natural environment.

The event will be at ULM's Malone and Brown Stadiums parking lots from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2.

All residents of Ouachita Parish and surrounding parishes are invited to donate paints, automobile batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners and chemicals, pesticides, flammables, corrosives, medications, other hazardous household products and electronic wastes including computers, monitors, assorted computer accessories, printers scanners, fax machines, speakers, VCRs, DVD players, stereo equipment, TVs, game consoles, digital cameras, any audio or video equipment, radios, calculators, cell phones and phone accessories.

Recycling materials that will be accepted are office paper, magazines, cardboard, plastics such as soda bottles and milk jugs and white goods/scrap metal like old appliances. Tires having a 20-inch rim dimension or below will also be accepted. Tires must be off the rim and limited to five tires per household.

Prohibited materials include medical waste, radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and explosives.

Large quantities from businesses or commercial operations will not be accepted.

Donations will be accepted to help pay for the cost of recycling hazardous materials.
