Pi Kappa Alpha continues national winning streak
Members of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Pi Kappa Alpha chapter continued the longest current winning streak in Pi Kappa Alpha history as they captured their 13th consecutive Robert A. "Smythe" award at the Pi Kappa Alpha International Convention.
The win marks their 18th Smythe award in the last 20 years.
Seven ULM students, which included Pi Kappa Alpha President Nick Vinson, Vice President Phillip Hebert, Pledge Educator Nick Baum, Social Director Beau Webb, Athletic Chairman Anthony Graves, Nick Vargo, and Lester Luparello joined Chapter Advisor Joseph Beard and Advisory Board Members Bob Elliott, Adam Cossey, Hai Bui, and Tommy Walpole at the 4 day event held July 28-31 in Memphis Tennessee.
Other highlights of the trip included:
• Winning the Raymond L Orians Award for Chapter Excellence for overall chapter performance during the previous year. This is the chapter's 25th consecutive Orian's award.
• Winning the alumni participation award given for having the most alumni participate in the chapter's international work day event.
• Recognition for 100 percent participation in the undergraduate donor club sponsored by Pi Kappa Alpha's Educational Foundation.
• Being named as finalist for Pi Kappa Alpha's Pledge Education and Athletic programs. Each was ranked in the top three in each perspective division.
• Winning the Chapter Accountability Program.
• President Nick Vinson and Nick Vargo were recognized for their attendance at Pi Kappa Alpha's Educational conferences.
• The fraternity won a Scholastic Achievement Award for earning a 3.00 last year as a fraternity at ULM.
• The Chapter's Alumni Advisory Board consisting of 10 alumni who advise different areas of chapter operations were named as the top AAB in the fraternity.
Coordinator of Greek Life Keith Hembree noted that Pi Kappa Alpha, ULM's largest fraternity, are heavily involved in campus life and in campus organizations, won multiple awards at last year's Greek Banquet including their third consecutive Fraternity of Excellence award, were named as ULM's Organization of the Year for the ninth time in the 12-year history of that award and crowned All-University Athletic Champions for the third consecutive year.
"We congratulate Pi Kappa Alpha for their long line of successes," said Hembree. "It is always an especially proud moment when one of our Greek organizations achieves positive attention at the national level."
