Public Debates scheduled for Fall 2011

On behalf of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Communication’s Speech and Debate forum, Dr. Lesli Pace has organized two public debates for the Fall 2011 semester.

These debates serve as the inaugural events in a new series titled The Bill and Linda Rambin Public Debate Forum, selected in honor of the former Director of the School of Communication, Dr. William (Bill) Rambin, and his recently deceased wife, Linda. Dr. Rambin served the campus community from 1967 - 2002.
 
The first debate is scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Room 100 of Stubbs Hall, as Jeremy Hutchins and Sean Tiffee debate the future of online education.

Hutchins is a Senior Lecturer and the Associate Director of Forensics in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University-San Marcos. His students have qualified for elimination rounds at multiple national tournaments and he has coached students to national championships at the Phi Rho Pi National Forensics Tournament and the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament.

Tiffee is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas in Austin. He recently published a chapter in The Politics of Style and the Style of Politics, edited by Barry Brummett.  He has taught courses on public speaking, professional and business communication, rhetorical criticism and American speeches. He has served as the Assistant Director of Debate at the University of Texas and Texas State University.
 
On Tuesday, Nov. 22, members of the British Debate Team will debate two ULM students at 6 p.m. in Stubbs Hall, Room 100.
