Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day scheduled Oct. 2

Area residents are encouraged to join the effort to clean-up Ouachita Parish during a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The collection will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at ULM’s Brown Stadium on Warhawk Way to help rid local waterways and natural environments of hazardous products, according to Kevin Baer, department head of the Department of Toxicology at ULM.

The collection is open all Ouachita Parish residents with proof of residency and is an excellent form of community service for students, since it supports proper disposal of harmful waste.

Electronics, household appliances, household chemicals and car batteries are welcomed at the collection. Tires measuring up to a 20-inch wheel dimension are also accepted but limited to five per household.

Residents are asked to exclude infectious and medical wastes, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and explosives.

For more information contact ULM’s Dr. Baer at 318-342-1698 or baer@ulm.edu or the Keep Ouachita Parish Beautiful campaign at 318-355-5622.
