ULM's Up 'til Dawn to hold annual fundraising for St. Jude Nov. 3
University of Louisiana at Monroe's Up 'til Dawn members are seeking five member teams to compete for the most funds raised for St. Jude at its annual Letter Sending event. The event is at 8 p.m., Nov. 3, in the Student Union Building ballrooms. Free food, music, and door prizes will be provided.
"Letter sending is the most important Up 'til Dawn event of the year," said Laura Knotts, coordinator of student development and Up 'til Dawn advisor at ULM.
"During letter sending, teams fill out form letters to send to family and friends asking for donations to the hospital," she said. "All donations are tracked and attributed to teams. The winning team will have its name inscribed on the four-foot tall Up 'til Dawn trophy, which the winning group can use at its events throughout the next school year."
Letters are accepted in advance for those who cannot attend. St. Jude is a pediatric cancer research hospital that never turns a child away for inability to pay. More than 72 percent of the hospital's funds come from private donations, and the hospital costs more than $1.5 million per day to operate.
