National organization recognizes work of ULM alum with Contribution to Community Award

Phi Mu recently presented ULM alum Frances Dobernig Mitchelson with its Outstanding Alumnae Achievement Contribution to Community Award at its 2010 National Convention in Phoenix, Ariz.

The award honors one member who has made contributions to her local community through volunteer service and remained a supportive member of the Fraternity.

She pledged the Alpha Rho Chapter at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University). Since that time, she has made significant contributions to Phi Mu and her professional and local community.

After Mitchelson's experience as a Phi Mu chapter consultant, she continued to serve both the Phi Mu and the Greek community, serving as Greek Adviser at the University of Idaho and the Director of Student Life at Pittsburg State University.

She is a past National President of the Fraternity, has served as National Panhellenic Conference Third Alternate Delegate, was vice president of Special Projects for Phi Mu Foundation, and currently serves as National Panhellenic Conference Second Alternate Delegate.

In her local community of Pittsburg, Kan., she serves on various boards and committees, including Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic Diocese, the Children's Advocacy Center, the Pittsburg Library and the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas.

Founded in 1852, Phi Mu is a women's organization providing personal and academic development, service to others, commitment to excellence and lifelong friends through a shared tradition, according to an organization statement. Phi Mu promotes vibrant living encouraging members to achieve their personal best.
