College of Arts and Sciences hosts celebration of Humanities and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences hosted its fifth Celebration of Humanities and Sciences on Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Student Union Ballroom. The celebration combined ULM faculty and high school students with interests in foreign languages, English, history, civics, math, sociology, social work and sciences.

This year's theme was "A Passport to the Future." Eighty students and teachers attended from area high schools.The evening began with a browse through displays and exhibits developed by faculty and students at ULM.

"The Concept of Travel in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales" "Migrating Through Life" and "The Festival in Cannes" were among the displays.

The group was welcomed by Dr. Matthew James, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. H.P. Jones, a history professor at ULM.

Jones said that students, often times, "don't see the use in learning about humanities and pure sciences. But through this program, students will become more interested about learning and get a greater pleasure out of life."
