ULM's Biology Department to host "The Sound of Fear" Nov. 18

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Biology will host "The Sound of Fear" from 4 – 5 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the ULM Chemistry and Natural Science Building, Room 100.
Dr. Daniel Blumstein of the University of California-Los Angeles will use his presentation to address such questions as, "What makes a scream scary?", "Why do animals scream?" and "Why do they emit other sorts of alarm vocalizations?"

Blumstein is a professor and departmental chair of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCLA. He also serves as a professor in the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.

Blumstein is best known for his research into marmots, but he has also participated in major research programs on kangaroos, wallabies and birds. He is broadly interested in the interface of the fields of animal behavior and conservation biology

He has published around 200 scientific papers and articles and has written four books. Blumstein's work is widely cited, and he is often called upon to interview by national and international news sources such as National Public Radio, The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
