ULM Freshlife Film Project showcases student experiences and hard work
The Freshlife Film Project is perhaps one of those assignments best tackled as a group – and enjoyed among friends.
Freshman students were recently given the assignment to produce a short film that relates their first-semester experiences at ULM.
Now the countdown is on as the top seven films will eventually be whittled down from the 23 original works submitted and then screened at the first ever Freshlife Film Festival.
The festival will be held at 7 p.m., Nov. 18, in the Grove, where the overall winner will be announced and awarded prizes.
The Freshlife Film Project is among the signature events of a freshman's first year experience, according to Mary Elizabeth Sewell, coordinator of First Year Experience.
Of the 37 submissions, the screening committee selected 23 videos to advance to the semi-finals for voting online by the entire ULM campus family, she said.
"It has been a great community building project for our beginning freshmen and allowed them to showcase their imagination and creativity," said Sewell.
ULM students, faculty and staff have been invited to vote on their top three picks starting Wednesday, Nov. 9, and ending at 11 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12.
The videos may be viewed at:

The project is the result of a grant co-authored by Sewell, Dr. Thilla Sivakumaran and Nathan Hall. The grant funding was used to purchase the video cameras and Apple computers that the students used for their projects.
