Riser to be keynote speaker at ULM 2010 Spring Commencement
State Senator Neil Riser of Columbia is the keynote speaker for University of Louisiana at Monroe’s 2010 Spring Commencement exercises, scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, May 22, in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Riser serves on the Republican State Central Committee, and as vice president of the Capital Regional Legislative Delegation. He also serves on the Republican legislative delegation.
Among his numerous senate committee assignments, Riser also serves as chair of Labor and Industrial Relations, and as a member of Agriculture, Revenue and Fiscal Affairs, Insurance, and the Select Committees on Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs.
Riser is president and owner of Riser Funeral Homes based in Caldwell and LaSalle Parishes; a board member of Caldwell Bank and Trust; and past president of Pelican State Life Insurance Co.
He is a ULM alum, having earned his bachelor’s of business management from then-named Northeast Louisiana State University in 1984.
An avid outdoorsman, Riser is married to Vicki Smith Riser and they have two daughters, Emilie and Allison.
“Since graduating from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, my career has moved in so many brilliant ways, mainly as an entrepreneur, and my most current role as a state senator,” said Riser. “I attribute this greatly to my education at ULM.”
