Blaylock named interim Pharmacy Dean
Dr. Benny Blaylock has been appointed interim dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors approved his new position in late April. A national search for a permanent dean will begin in the fall.
Blaylock's experience and expertise will immediately ensure the continued success of the College of Pharmacy program, said ULM Provost Stephen Richters.
“I am confident that Dr. Blaylock possesses the academic, administrative, and interpersonal skills necessary to move the College of Pharmacy forward.”
Blaylock, who arrived at ULM in 1992, joined the biology department and eventually moved to the toxicology department in 1993. He has served as Director of Research and Graduate Studies for the College of Pharmacy, Department Head for the Department of Toxicology, and Associate Dean for Operations, Technology and Graduate Programs for the College of Pharmacy.
Blaylock continues to teach in both the professional Pharm.D. program and the toxicology program.
He has presented and/or published more than 100 papers and has contributed to more than $1.5 million in extramural research funding. In 1995, he was awarded the Society of Toxicology Board of Publications Award for the Best Paper in Fundamental and Applied Toxicology. In 1997, he was selected as Outstanding Professor in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Blaylock earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He was a postdoctoral fellow and staff fellow in the immunotoxicology section of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
