ULM announces College of Pharmacy dean
Interim College of Pharmacy Dean W. Greg Leader will serve as the college's permanent dean, pending the approval of the UL System Board of Supervisors.
“After a thorough search of applicants received from across the nation, we were pleased to realize that the best possible candidate was right here at our university,” said Cofer.
“We have seen firsthand Dr. Leader’s astute handling of the College of Pharmacy affairs during the last year. We are confident that our pharmacy staff and faculty will continue to be in capable hands.”
Dr. Leader has served as interim dean since January 2009. Before that time, he was a tenured professor of Clinical Pharmacy Practice at ULM, where he has worked in a variety of professional capacities since March 1999.
"It is an honor to be named dean of a program with such a rich history,” said Leader.
“The ULM College of Pharmacy attracts excellent students from all areas of the state for both our pharmacy and toxicology programs,” he added. “I am looking forward to working with an outstanding faculty and staff to continue to produce quality graduates, disseminate relevant and cutting-edge scientific discoveries, and provide patient care and outreach services across the state."
ULM offers the only state-supported College of Pharmacy in Louisiana. With campuses in Baton Rouge and Shreveport, the College has extended its impact state wide, and increased opportunities for collaborative education and research with other institutions.
Dr. Leader received his doctor of pharmacy degree with highest distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in December 1991. He is a magna cum laude graduate of ULM, then-named Northeast Louisiana University, where he received his bachelor’s of science degree.
Following graduation, he worked as a staff pharmacist at hospitals in Louisiana and Kentucky, and he was a faculty member at the West Virginia University College of Pharmacy.
Recent scholarly contributions include submissions to Pharmacotherapy Casebook: A Patient Focused Approach, Seventh and Eight Editions; and publication in Pharmacotherapy Principles and Practice, Second Edition and Concepts in Pharmacogenomics, First Edition.
He has secured several grants for ULM's College of Pharmacy, including a $188,100 Health Resources and Services Administration Grant for the enhancement of biomedical research. He also secured an unrestricted educational grant from Wyeth-Ayerst for preceptor development.
Leader serves on a subsection of the editorial board for the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, as well as the Louisiana Society of Health System Pharmacists Board of Directors.
