Regional Job Search Skills Workshop at ULM addresses job seekers’ needs March 30
The Office of Career Connections at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will host a free Regional Job Search Skills Workshop from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 30 at Malone Stadium. The event is open to everyone and participants are free to come for as much or as little of the session as needed.
“We felt this would be a good opportunity to show that ULM is integrally connected to the community and truly wants to help people who are in need of our services,” said Ann Bloxom Smith, director of academic internships at the ULM Office of Career Connections.
Speakers from various businesses will lead informational workshops beginning with a 4 p.m. presentation by Steve Kelly from the ULM Community Counseling Center. He will offer a workshop featuring useful tools for coping with job loss.
At 4:45 pm, Sarah Fuller, the author of “Job Searches Beyond the Big Cities,” will speak on tips for finding and attaining a good job in smaller markets. Her work has been featured in such respected online business publications as Forbes.com.
M’Kay Bonner of Bonner Solutions and Services will hold a workshop at 5:30 p.m. on how to keep a job. Bonner, a West Monroe-based licensed industrial organizational psychologist, will provide information on balancing personal characteristics and preferences.
The staff of ULM’s Career Connections office will also hold a workshop on resume preparation and job interview skills beginning at 6:15 pm. Participants are invited to bring a copy of their resumes so career professionals can review and edit it while attendees are in workshop sessions.
Information about other community resources available through ULM, such as the dental hygiene clinic, counseling center and marriage and family therapy will also be available.
Information regarding job search skills and state and local services will be available as well. To register or get more information, contact the ULM Office of Career Connections at 318-342-1144 or 342-5338.
