ULM recognized as a “GeoGebra Institute;” one of only four in the U.S.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe was recently officially recognized as a “GeoGebra Institute” by the GeoGebra organization. ULM is the only school in the South, and one of only four in the U.S., to receive this recognition.

GeoGebra combines geometry, algebra, tables, graphing, statistics and calculus into one online tool. It has received several educational software awards in Europe and the U.S., according to its Web site.

“GeoGebra is a free interactive online application that makes ‘active visualization’ of mathematics possible,” said Dr. Mike Beutner, associate professor of instructional technology and the group’s coordinator.

“ULM's new GeoGebra Institute will focus on making mathematics education more engaging in the great state of Louisiana.”

Members include associate professor of educational leadership Dr. Augusta Clark, and Michael Broome, Pam Martin, Kathie Smart and Beth Smith, all instructors in the math department.
