First meeting set for ULM Presidential Search

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Presidential Search Committee will hold its first meeting on campus on July 22 and will gather input from the public on desired characteristics of a new president.

WHAT: ULM Presidential Search Committee Meeting and Public Forum

WHEN: Thursday, July 22, 2010 (10:30 a.m. Meeting; 1 p.m. Public Hearing)

WHERE: University Conference Center (7th floor ULM Library - #28 on the ULM campus map), 700 University Avenue, Monroe, Louisiana

The morning meeting, which is open to the public, will include discussions of the search process, charge to the committee, advertisement and timeline. The afternoon public hearing will be an opportunity for members of the campus and community to directly address the committee about preferential traits of a new leader.

"The public forum is one of the most important steps in the presidential search process. Each university has its own unique dynamics and needs, and the committee wants to hear directly from ULM's constituents," said University of Louisiana System President and ULM Search Committee Chair Randy Moffett.

Those who cannot make the campus meeting can submit comments to the committee via ULMPresidentialSearch@uls.state.la.us. Agendas for the meetings as well as information about the search can be found at www.ulsystem.edu/ULMSearch.

The 13-member search committee includes UL System Board Members Andre Coudrain of Hammond, Mildred Gallot of Grambling, Edward Crawford of Shreveport, E. Gerald Hebert of Kenner, Jimmy Long, Sr. of Natchitoches, Renee Lapeyrolerie of New Orleans, D. Wayne Parker of Choudrant, Carl Shetler of Lake Charles, Winfred Sibille of Sunset, Student Board Member and ULM Student Government Association President Brook Sebren and faculty representative Anna Hill. Community representative Tex Kilpatrick serves as a non-voting representative along with Chair Moffett.

Founded in 1931, ULM is a selective admissions university classified as a Carnegie Master's L (large) and SREB Four-Year 3 institution. The university offers several undergraduate and graduate degrees to over 9,000 traditional, non-traditional and distance-learning students. The 238-acre campus located in northeastern Louisiana is home to the only state-supported College of Pharmacy.
