ULM Child Development Center Director featured at state resource workshop
University of Louisiana at Monroe Child Development Center Director Emily Williamson recently presented a workshop titled “Early Literacy” at the Louisiana Resource Center for Educators in Baton Rouge.
Williamson, who is also an instructor in ULM’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, presented the six-hour session for public and private lower elementary school teachers, pre-kindergarten through third grade.
The session helped teachers understand the importance of a language-rich environment and how to cultivate it in their classrooms. Williamson shared hundreds of samples of children's work to give participants new ideas for activities that integrate reading and writing in the classroom.
Williamson was one of 15 featured presenters asked to present at this year’s LRCE's summer workshop series, which was sponsored by Cox communications, Entergy, Chase, Louisiana Lottery, Exxon-Mobile and Phelps Dunbar LLP.
