ULM professors published in international journal
Two University of Louisiana at Monroe professors were recently published in the Journal of International and Cross-Cultural Studies.
Dr. Madalla Alibeli, assistant professor of sociology and Dr. Chris Johnson, former professor of gerontology wrote a paper entitled “Environmental Concern: A Cross-National Analysis” which appeared in the first issue of this year.
The findings of the study were later presented at the American Sociological Association meeting in San Francisco on Aug. 10.
The study focuses on the level of concern about the environment felt amongst Middle Eastern students. Alibeli and Johnson used data from the Middle Eastern Environmental Attitudes Survey conducted at the University of Bahrain in Bahrain, King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, Mu’tah University in Jordan and Qatar University in Qatar.
The study showed that there were high to moderately high levels of concern about the environment amongst the college students surveyed, but that it varied according to socioeconomic and demographic characteristics.
“This article is the first of its kind,” Alibeli said. “Previous multicultural studies on the environment overlooked environmental concern in the Middle East.”
