AASECT certifies ULM faculty member
The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists has officially certified the department head of the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Department of Kinesiology as a sexuality educator.
The certification earns Mark Doherty, Ph.D., the designation as the only AASECT-certified sexuality educator in the state. Doherty also serves as the group’s state leader.
AASECT is a not-for-profit, interdisciplinary professional organization and is the world's largest professional organization dedicated to the field of human sexuality.
“While school boards and university’s ultimately decide what content is to be taught at their institutions, I believe having a representative within the state who is nationally certified in the area of human sexuality education strengthens the quality sexuality information available to students and the general public,” said Doherty.
Doherty said the certification also strengthens the curricular offerings within ULM and adds another certification to the long list held by ULM faculty for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
In addition, Doherty is approved as a member of the editorial staff for the McGraw-Hill Taking Sides: Sexuality series.
