ULM activities planned in conjunction with Earth Day celebrations April 22
The University of Louisiana at Monroe will celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, with several “GrowULM” activities planned across campus to inspire awareness of environmental and conservation issues.
“Turn Out the Lights” is a major event scheduled from 12 to 1 p.m. in which ULM faculty, staff, and students will conserve energy by turning off all electronic devices and lights for one hour, as long as it does not disrupt normal educational activities.
The following is a schedule of Earth Day 2009 events and related “GrowULM” activities:
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Informational sessions on recycling in the ULM Quad
Several ULM organizations and departments will offer educational booths, including the College of Pharmacy, the Toxicology Club, The Child Development Center, and ULM Library. The Quad will also be the host site for the campus family to drop off recyclable materials.
Noon – 1 p.m.: “Turn Out The Lights” event
All ULM faculty, staff, and students are asked show their conservation spirit by turning off lights and appliances.
1:30 p.m.: The ULM Clean Up
7 – 9 p.m.: Earth Day at Masur Hall
Information will be provided on recycling, water conservation, and Energy Star, a government-backed program aimed at protecting the environment through energy efficient products and practices. Food will be provided.
Sponsored by Greek Life, this event encourages students to do their part to tidy the environment.
ULM enthusiastically embraces the opportunity to make a difference by cultivating a more eco-friendly world.
