ULM Water Ski Team to vie for next national championship Oct. 16-18
The University of Louisiana Monroe Water Ski Team will compete for its 21st national championship win Oct. 16-18 in Chandler, Ariz.
The ULM Water Ski Team qualified for a spot at the National Collegiate Water Ski Association National Championship Tournament, to be hosted by Arizona State University, after winning the South Central Regional Tournament hosted by Texas State University in Houston, Texas, Sept. 28-29.
They also triumphed this season at a tournament hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Zachary Sept. 21.
Treina Landrum, ULM Water Ski Team coach and director of Recreational Services, said, “Our Water Ski Team has been doing a great job. We have a super group of students that we can be proud of. Six members of the team just returned from a week in Tianjin, China, where they skied at the World University Water Ski Championships. ULM was extremely well represented. Competition is getting harder; there are several strong teams to vie with, coming up.”
The team’s anniversary will be celebrated Oct. 25, marking the 30th year of water skiing at ULM. The team will host a reunion in conjunction with the ULM Alumni Association, as well as a ski show on Bayou DeSiard by the Alumni Center from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to see this performance given by water ski champions.
The ULM Water Ski Team is the current national champion and now holds 20 NCWSA titles; winning 20 of the 28 years the competition has been held.
