Update on off-campus incident
At approximately 12 p.m. today, a shooting occurred approximately five blocks from the ULM campus. ULM police officers and university administrators closely monitored the situation, and because the situation was contained and did not pose a threat to the ULM community, the campus did not go on lockdown or activate FirstCall, ULM's emergency notification system.
ULM police officers responded to the scene and assisted city and state police officers. The incident, which did not involve anyone affiliated with the university, is now over.
ULM Provost Stephen Richters notified the campus twice today via e-mail, keeping the university community informed of today's incident.
Monroe Police officers are handling the case.
