ULM music students participate in LA Intercollegiate Band
Seven ULM students participated in the Intercollegiate Band this past weekend. The Intercollegiate Band is comprised of students from 11 different colleges in Louisiana, and is sponsored by the College Band Directors National Association. ULM Director of Bands Derle R. Long is a member of CBDNA and served as state chairman for the past two years.
The ULM participating students are:
- Philip Bradbury (clarinet) of New Orleans
- Kyle Murdock (clarinet) of Bossier City
- Meagan Methered (clarinet) of Mesquite, Texas
- Shelby McCarty (trumpet) of West Monroe
- Josh Bumgardner (bassoon) of Shreveport
- Chad Hendricks (tuba) of Monroe
- Michael Holdiness (percussion) of Mer Rouge
The students were under the baton of Director of Bands Allan McMurray of the University of Colorado at Boulder.
The weekend began with auditions and rehearsals Friday night and continued with a full rehearsal day on Saturday. After taking Sunday morning off, the band students had a final rehearsal at noon before a concert at 2 p.m.
One of the pieces programmed was the “Symphony No. 2” by Monroe native Frank Ticheli, who is professor of theory and composition at the University of Southern California. Ticheli made an appearance at the Friday night rehearsal while the band was performing his music.
