Olympic hero Rowdy Gaines to conduct first Rowdy's Kidz swim clinic in Monroe at ULM Feb. 9
Three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines and The Limu Company will host their first Rowdy's Kidz swim clinic in Monroe Saturday, Feb. 9 at ULM's Lake C. Oxford Natatorium from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Children attend free of charge.
Check-in is at 11 a.m. Each registered swimmer will receive an autograph, an event swim cap, clinic entry, and group instruction.
Gary J. Raser, founder, president and CEO of The Limu Company, said, "We chose Monroe so we could reach out to children and make a difference in a community where our distributors live and work. Our distributors make a difference in our company and we want to make a difference in their communities. We are working with the local swim team, the LA Gold, and the folks at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, who have been exceptionally helpful in allowing us to use their facility, the Lake C. Oxford Natatorium. We are very excited about our first event."
Gaines will host the clinic, designed for children ages six to 18, offering instruction in strokes, starts and turns. Gaines will also share his own championship wisdom and life lessons throughout the course of each two-hour clinic.
"I want to share everything I can with these kids," Gaines said. "Swimming gave me so much that I want to give something back. I want these kids to have the chance to pursue their dreams. If I can be a small part of that, it would be the best reward I could hope for."
Gaines is the ideal candidate for this role, Raser said, "because he is quite simply a world-class human being. There is no one out there who better exemplifies overcoming adversity and achieving a dream through commitment, dedication and sacrifice. Rowdy represents everything we want our children to be."
The swim clinics will be offered in local communities across the country, with locations and scheduling details to be announced on the Web site www.RowdysKidz.com. The Limu Company will underwrite all costs at each clinic, allowing every child to participate without paying an admission fee. The clinics can accommodate up to 75 children.
