ULM communication graduate students to host political forums and voter registrations in April

Graduate students enrolled in Dr. Lesli Pace's special topics course in political communication at ULM will present information about presidential candidates and run voter registration booths during the month of April.

On Tuesday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Stubbs Hall, room 247, students will offer a detailed explanation of each presidential candidate's campaign platform. These presentations will help the campus community familiarize themselves with candidates outside the context of political advocacy.

On Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Stubbs Hall, room 247, students will discuss their analyses of presidential candidates' speeches. Drawing on various rhetorical frameworks, students will explore persuasive appeals, ideology, dramatism, characteristics of effective political speeches, and the function of attack ads. Students will focus on what they learned about the candidate's speech, and how the ability to rhetorically analyze political discourse allows a deeper understanding.

During ULM's Spring Fever Week, specifically on April 14, 15 and 17, students will run voter registration booths.
