KEDM asking for volunteers for fall membership drive
KEDM asking for volunteers for fall membership driveThe 90.3 FM KEDM Public Radio station on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus is reaching out for volunteers from the community for its fall membership drive Oct. 13 – 20.
Over 200 individuals and businesses usually participate in the fundraising event. Help is needed in a variety of areas, such as getting on-the-air with the KEDM staff to encourage listeners to call in their financial support with a pledge, or working behind the scenes answering pledge phones in three- or four-hour shifts.
KEDM Membership Manager Adrienne LaFrance said about volunteering, “This is a wonderful opportunity to join KEDM in urging individuals to support the station. In addition to pitching, civic organizations or businesses can share with the community local events they may be promoting at the time or the services that their company has to offer.” On-air experience is not needed, since at least one staff member will be on the microphone as well during the pitch breaks, which average one to five minutes.
Area restaurants are also invited to participate. Food vendors are asked to donate one meal for one day to feed approximately 10 – 12 volunteers. In exchange for their tax-deductible donation, KEDM will announce their name at least five times a day as a contributor to the drive. “Our volunteers look forward to meals as a chance to refuel between pitch breaks, and they compliment the restaurants’ generosity on the air. It creates a ‘buzz’ about where the restaurant’s priorities lie in the community and what specials they may be having,” LaFrance said.
KEDM depends on both the financial and volunteer support of its listeners and corporate underwriters to assist in keeping its quality programming on the air. This funding comes primarily from these membership drives, held twice annually. KEDM airs programs daily, including in-depth news coverage and a variety of entertainment programs and music genres.
