Bry Art Gallery displays work of Ruston artist Kit Gilbert through Oct. 18
The Bry Art Gallery in the Division of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is currently showing a One-Person Exhibition of Paintings by Kit Gilbert of Ruston.
Gilbert's large nonobjective canvases are augmented by metal found-object sculptural materials garnered from a Lincoln Parish barn. Her exhibition consists of 20 such painting/sculpture combinations, plus two freestanding metal sculptures.
Known to many as a successful businesswoman, Gilbert also pursues a second career as a practicing and exhibiting studio artist. Her work can be seen on occasion in Monroe and Ruston, and throughout the mid-South region in various exhibitions of the Eye Twenty Group.
This exhibition will be on view through Oct. 18. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Mondays – Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. – noon Fridays when the university is in session.
The artist will be honored with a reception at Bry on Friday, Sept. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. She will also give a "closing" gallery talk to students at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.
