ULM and Delta partner to host LCA conference Sept. 8

The ninth annual Louisiana Communication Association (LCA) conference will be held at the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second floor of the newly-renovated ULM Student Union Building.

A primary mission of the LCA is to offer critical insight into the role communication plays in both personal growth and professional success, said Ron Tangye, executive director of the LCA conference and a speech communication and theatre associate professor at Delta Community College. Tangye has worked with Pat Hebert, communication professor at ULM, on the upcoming conference.

“We are proud this year of the diversity of our presenters and the uniqueness of their special research areas,” said Tangye, speech communication and theatre associate professor at Delta Community College. “We have also made a special effort statewide to seek out the brightest graduate and undergraduate students and their research will proudly represent such fine institutions as ULM, LSU, McNeese State and Xavier, just to name a few.”

Communication instructors and students from throughout the state will be attending and participating in various panels addressing both interesting and topical issues. Lively issues from Facebook to workplace empowerment to Aljazeera media, etc., will be discussed.

Speakers include Luke Robins, chancellor of Delta Community College, Jamie Mayo, mayor of Monroe and Stephen Richters, provost at ULM. The keynote speaker is the Honorable Robert W. Levy, member of the Louisiana Board of Regents.

Anyone interested in the latest trends and communication strategies in play in Louisiana can greatly benefit by attending this valuable conference.

There is a minimal registration fee for participants, which includes meals, membership, LCA Journal, open meeting attendance and a gift bag.
