ULM's Colvin nominated for Women of Excellence Award
Lisa Colvin, interim director of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has been nominated for the Women of Excellence Award, sponsored by the Louisiana Legislative Women’s Caucus. Colvin, whose nomination was accepted in the Education & Research category, has secured several grants that have benefited ULM and the community.
The Women of Excellence Award recipients will be announced Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007.
The Women’s Caucus created the awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their achievements and contributions. These women personify excellence in their area of specialty, integrity, character, community service and professionalism. This year’s categories to which individuals were nominated are: Business, Education & Research, Health & Medicine, Law & Justice, Volunteerism & Civic Involvement and Young Woman of Excellence (ages 16 to 23).
The Women’s Caucus comprises the women in the Louisiana Legislature, whose collective mission is to: (1) prepare the next generation of women leaders and (2) serve as the premiere voice and leading monitor of issues, legislation and policies, which impact women. Since the election of the first woman to the Louisiana Legislature in 1936, women elected to the legislature have increased dramatically in number, strength and influence.
