ULM community services to be honored at CenturyTel Accent on Excellence Breakfast Nov. 13

Several ULM clinics and laboratories will be recognized this year at the CenturyTel Accent on Excellence Breakfast, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 7:30 – 9 a.m. at the Monroe Civic Center Conference Hall.

This event honors outstanding educators and educational programs in the community. Paul G. Pastorek, state superintendent of education, will be the featured speaker.

Several ULM programs will receive praise:

• The Marriage and Family Therapy Center (Program Director Lamar Woodham and Clinical Director Jana Sutton)
• The Community Counseling Program (Charles Pryor, department head of the educational leadership and counseling program, and Yolanda Dupre, clinical coordinator)
• The Speech and Hearing Clinic (Norma Johnson, director of clinical services, and Judy Fellows, department head of communicative disorders)
• The Dental Hygiene Clinic (Beverly Jarrell, director, and Sharon Chaney, clinical coordinator)

Jarrell said, “It is an honor for our clinic and its coordinator to receive this kind of recognition. It’s also an appreciated opportunity to make the community aware of the valuable services available to them in the Dental Hygiene Clinic and at ULM.”

Pryor appreciated the longstanding partnership between the community and the university. "It is a privilege to have our clinics cited for the excellent service provided to the community. It is also significant that the community places their confidence in the helping skills of our students and are willing to participate by allowing us to serve their needs."

Fellows also expressed her appreciation for this kind of community connection. “We are pleased to be able to provide speech, language, and hearing services to the children and adults in our community through both our on-campus clinic in Brown Hall and the Scottish Rite Clinic on University Avenue. On behalf of the CODI faculty and students, I would like to express our appreciation to the many clients we have served over the years. They allowed us to be a part of their lives and for the students to learn from them. We look forward to continuing to serve the community for many years.”
