Wind Ensemble’s spring tour to focus on Lafayette area
The ULM Wind Ensemble will depart on their Spring Tour Monday, April 2 as a recruiting effort and as a chance to share one of ULM’s premiere performing ensembles with high school and junior high school students and communities throughout Louisiana and surrounding states.
The tour this year focuses on the Lafayette area with performances scheduled at Lafayette High, Acadiana High, Comeaux High, and St. Thomas More High School.
The Wind Ensemble prepares a wide variety of music for these tours with the idea that there should be something in the program for everyone. Included in the repertoire this year are transcriptions of Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 5” and the finale of Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 3.” Also included are Julie Giroux’s musical depiction of a night at the circus, appropriately entitled “Circus Franticus,” Richard Saucedo’s “To This Heartbeat There Is No End” which was written as a tribute to the victims and survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and at least two “toe-tapping” marches by John Philip Sousa.
The Wind Ensemble will conclude their spring performance schedule with a concert in Brown Auditorium Friday, April 27 at 7:30 pm. There is no admission charge for this concert.
