SBDC adds state business tax and patent workshops to spring offerings
The ULM Small Business Development Center will offer a free State Business Tax Workshop Wednesday, March 28 from 1 3 p.m. at the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue collects a variety of state taxes.
There are, however, two types that are of great importance to small business owners and managers. These are state sales tax and state income withholding. Every business that collects these taxes should register with the Department of Revenue before opening or immediately after opening their business to ensure that the required tax responsibilities are determined and met. This workshop will give the opportunity to learn more about state taxes and obligations as a business owner or manager.
Key topics include: Who should register and how to register; determining how much to submit and how to complete the return; when to file; the requirements on record keeping; and so on.
The speaker will be Sharon Scioneaux, Monroe regional director for the Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation. Scioneaux has been with the department since 1973 and has acted as regional director for the past 13 years. She will explain aspects of state sales and withholding taxes as well as answer questions you might have concerning other state taxes.
A free Patents, Copyrights, and Trademarks appointment will be offered Thursday, April 19.
The appointment will help those in need of technical information related to a new product development or who have the wish to investigate the potential growth of a company as a result of acquiring a new technology. The ULM SBDC, as part of its continuing education program, is providing business people and individual inventors an opportunity to discuss their invention or project with a technology development specialist.
The specialist, Bob Montgomery, is a registered Patent Agent and has extensive experience in bringing new products to market. To schedule an appointment with Montgomery, call the ULM SBDC.
The ULM SBDC provides quality, no-fee, confidential, one-on-one counseling services to potential and existing business owners; provides no-fee management and technical assistance services by appointment; conducts workshops and seminars to help small business people become better managers and to keep them informed about current events and changing trends in today¹s business world; and maintains a resource library which includes statistical data, census figures, SBA publications, and a variety of other information.
